START 2014 For Our Partner Institutions

Welcome to START 2014!

START is an online education program to facilitate the transition from internship to residency comprised of the following elements:

  • Video Podcasts with Clinical Vignettes and Demonstrations
  • Lectures on Anesthesia Fundamentals
  • Pre- and Post-Quizzes on Podcast and Lecture Content
  • Interactive/Collaborative Activities

The START program has now been implemented at 18 anesthesia residency programs internationally. The positive educational effects of START have been published in the Journal of Graduate Medical Education March 2013 issue.  We are glad your institution will be joining the program in 2014!

Get Started with START Enrollment for 2014

• Submit an IRB for approval with your institution using the materials provided on this webpage.
• Send the START enrollment e-mails to PGY-1s. Please send these messages out as soon as possible.

Please Note:
• Stanford University will be the coordinating site for this multi-institutional study. Your institution will not be conducting any data analysis or data collection. Research data is compiled and analyzed by Stanford University.
• The online curriculum for START will be managed and distributed by Stanford University.
• Your institution will be responsible for forwarding the enrollment email to all PGY-1 interns so that they can enroll by June 1, 2014.
• Materials have been made available to you via this website. Please refer to this website for an example IRB and all materials that your IRB will need for submission.
• We cannot submit an IRB for your institution. Please use the data on our website to coordinate the submission of your own institutional IRB. If you have any questions please send an e-mail to the address listed below.
• Once your IRB is completed and approved please send your institutional IRB and IRB approval number to Amy Ahearn, Education Technology Specialist at Stanford (aahearn@stanford.edu)
